Stress doesn't stay in the mind. It can show up physically as abdominal bracing, shallow breathing, a tight chest, tense shoulders, restricted movement, and persistent discomfort. Over time, the body may develop patterns of tension that are difficult to release on your own.
The Body Keeps the Score is a wonderfully informative book about how our body show the effects of the trauma and mental and emotional overwhelm we experience. When stress becomes chronic, its effects can show up physically as abdominal bracing, shallow breathing, chest tightness, neck and shoulder tension, jaw clenching, headaches, digestive discomfort, postural changes, fatigue, and restricted movement. These physical patterns can persist even when we are no longer consciously focused on the stress itself. Massage and bodywork offer a way to address the tension and restrictions that may have developed over time.
At FIXD Body Therapy, I use personalized massage and bodywork techniques to address the physical effects of ongoing stress and trauma. Sessions may incorporate abdominal massage, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and other gentle techniques to help ease tension, improve mobility, and support more comfortable breathing and movement. I also address other areas of the body in addition to the abdominal area.
This work is focused on the body's physical response—not psychotherapy or the treatment of mental health disorders.
